THE BATTLE’S BEGUN

Philadelphia, Pa. - Today’s Republican Platform’s Subcommittee hearing on Renewing Family and Community’s votes to attempt to silence Pro-Choice Republicans came as no surprise to RFC Chairman Ann Stone.

“The subcommittee vote was what we expected,” Stone said. “We’re proud of our advocates Toni Casey (CA), Maureen Barrows (NH), and Candy Straight (NJ) for their eloquence in support of this important issue.”

“They made the point that not only is this platform out of sync with the majority of Republicans, but they also made the point that it does not accurately reflect the position of our candidate, George W. Bush.”

In the battle to integrate Pro-Choice language into the Republican platform, Stone announced that, “This subcommittee is only Round 1. Later today,” she continued, “or early tomorrow, comes Round 2 with the full committee.”

“We have stronger support from the delegates in this committee than we have had in the past,” explained Stone, “but no matter what the outcome is in the full committee hearing - remember it’s only Round 2.”

“Pro-Choice advocates are working hard to take this to Round 3, the convention floor, if that’s what it takes,” she promised. “We,” said Stone, “are committed to exhausting every possible option in order to ensure and protect the Pro-Choice majority’s right to have their voice heard and addressed.”
