Rudy Giuliani Announces Opening of His GOP Presidential Candidate Exploratory Committee

Febuary 2007Popular Ex-Mayor of New York, pro-choice Republican  Rudy Giuliani, announced the creation of his 2008 Exploratory Committee.

This is wonderful news for all Americans, especially GOP moderate Republicans who are counting on someone like Mr. Giuliani to help bring our Grand Old Party back to its roots – to once again be the Party of individual rights that advocates that the government that governs least is the government that governs best.

He has been a supporter of Republicans for Choice since its earliest days.

Senator McCain, who professes to be a more moderate breed of conservative, is already pandering to the Far Right.  While we still hope that the Senator will pull back from the Far Right edge, we have high hopes that this will not happen with Mayor Giuliani.

It is still early in this race to the White House and as you know, Republicans For Choice (RFC) has been pushing for all factions in the Party to come up with a common ground policy.  We’ll see if candidate Giuliani and/or his advisors bend to the Far Right’s threats.

The last RNC Chairman, Ken Melhman, made absolutely no effort to unify the GOP and he is in part to blame for the disastrous defeats this past November.  We warned him and others in the GOP leadership they needed our moderate votes to win -- and the war wasn’t their only problem.

We told them their policies that advocated government interference in individual rights was going to do them in.  They dismissed it …why, because moderates don’t storm Congressional offices on a weekly basis threatening Members of Congress to toe the line like the antis do…they take it out on the Party at the ballot box.  In the 2006 elections that message should have been received loud and clear.

Long before the anger grew over the Iraq war, the GOP antics in Congress over Terri Schavio’s awful, slow death was the straw that broke the camel’s back for many moderates.  Long-time Republicans were fed up with the GOP’s out-of-control spending, interference in private lives – especially the growing threat of taking away individual rights, the ethics scandals and the vanishing separation of church and state.

If Rudy Giuliani sticks to his guns and fights for what is right for all Americans and our great nation instead of pandering to the Far Right – I truly believe he can revive the greatness of the Republican Party.

 So far so good.
