REPUBLICANS FOR CHOICE PAC
Letter to the
Editor
Subject: Arianna Huffington’s Withdrawal From
Governor’s Race
Date: October 1, 2003
Dear Editor:
I’ve known Arianna for years, but I was shocked and dismayed by
her withdrawal speech. In fact, I was so horrified that even though
I head a large GOP PAC, I have sent Arnold Schwarzenegger, by overnight
delivery, the largest personal campaign contribution I’ve ever made.
To say she was now against the Recall runs contrary
to Arianna’s reasons for running. A centerpiece of her run was “clean
campaign money.”
It is well known that Gray Davis has been one of the
worst abusers of campaign finance throughout his tenure. He has used
the office to raise millions for his campaigns from special interest
groups…with Bustamante at his side.
Further, Arianna accuses Arnold of being “controlled”
by Pete Wilson operatives since he hired them. Who would she have
him hire? Idiots? Outsiders who can’t win? These Wilson folks are
the most successful moderate GOP operatives in California. It simply
shows he’s smart.
I met Arnold years ago, through his wife, while they
were on vacation. The questions he asked and statements he made in
that non-political, personal situation, years before he decided to
run, told me he would be a breath of fresh air for the GOP and women
would benefit from his leadership.
Arnold doesn’t need my money or any special interest
group… that makes him different from any other person in the race.
He can’t be bought…he’s already rich and successful… and he will change
politics as usual in California and in the GOP.
Sincerely,
Ann E. W. Stone
